RED RIBBON WEEK
Monday October 27th - Fri 31st

Every year the students in Kindergarten - 6th grade make a pledge to be DRUG FREE.

An Officer from the Alhambra Police Department visits and speaks to the students and makes them aware of staying safe and drug free. They ask questions, act out various scenarios, and learn what to do if approached by someone attempting to sell/try drugs.

The school is decorated with red balloons, posters and flags. Students wear Red Ribbons all week and make classroom banners pledging to be DRUG FREE.

They also draw pictures (Kindergarten/1st grade) and write essays (2nd - 6th grade) about healthy alternatives to using drugs. Winners are chosen from each classroom and their work displayed in the hallways.

Students also understand the significance of red Ribbon Week:

Red Ribbon week is dedicated to Federal Drug Enforcement Agent Enrique Camarena, who was killed by drug traffickers in Mexico in 1985. In response to his death, angered parents across the country began wearing Red Ribbons to symbolize their commitment towards the creation of a drug free America.

In 1985, Congress officially proclaimed the first National Red Ribbon Week. The Red Ribbon has now become a symbol for the drug free movement.
